Keeping Your Dishwasher Dependable

Keeping Your Dishwasher Dependable

We can all agree that we count on our dishwashers a great deal. Using your dishwasher not only ensures dishes are cleaned and sanitized more effectively than handwashing, it can also save you time and money. Follow these tips to keep your dishwasher running smoothly:

USE Your Dishwasher

That’s right, USE it! This is the first and possibly most important thing you can do to maintain your dishwasher. If your dishwasher goes through long periods of not running, the seals may dry and crack. This can eventually lead to leaks and other issues.

Water Temperature

A dishwasher requires a minimum temperature of 130° to operate adequately. Cooler temperatures may leave behind greasy films or soapy residue. Running the faucet until the water reaches a hot temperature before starting your dishwasher will promote a better wash. You may also want to use a dishwasher rinse aid to control films and residue, especially if your water system generates hard water.

Get Rid of Rust

Dishwashers can accumulate rust, which can later lead to noticeable rust spots on dishes. Be sure to check all racks for rust and replace them when necessary, as these can deteriorate over time.

Free Clogs & Change Filters

Filters should be changed regularly to rid of any leftover food particles. Spray arms should also be checked for and freed of any clogs that may be present.

Upgrade Your Dishwasher

While you may have an older dishwasher that is running smoothly, newer models are more energy-efficient, can save you money in the long run, and help save the environment.
